Birds Around Home

Today I am taking you to some of our local birding spots.
This first picture is taken right on our yard.
We enjoy the birds as they come to the feeders, and this Purple Finch is a true delight.
Below is a Red-winged Blackbird.
This picture was taken just a few miles east of town, where there is a small pond.
As you can see he was singing heartily, and giving me lots of chances for pictures.
Going south and west of town,we found this Red-tailed Hawk.
I know it is not a perfect shot, but I like the action,as he is landing.
Back in town,we head to Livingston Nature Park.
It is still very quiet here, but this Robin showed up among the brush.
I think he was trying to hide from me.Guess it didn't work.
Also in Livingston Park Jake and I found a pair of Coopers Hawks.
Here is one of the birds perched beside their nest.
The tree is very tall and therefore the picture is  at a bad angle.
We will be watching this site for more activity.
In order to show the Hawk better, this photo has been cropped.
They really are a pretty bird.
This pair was not impressed with our presence and made a lot of noise,so we did not stay long.
As the spring season progresses we hope to find many more birds to photograph.

ENJOY EACH DAY AS IF IT WERE YOUR LAST.

  1. Ruth, you are so lucky to have that purple finch! That's one bird I never, ever see and I would love a chance to observe them, let alone photograph them. And yep, that was some fine action there with the red-tail. Darn those sticks ;-) I'm so excited about your Cooper's nest - wow - that will be fun to check on and see babies!!!

  3. I like that action shot. It's amazing what you can see in a picture, and much harder to get those shots.

  4. Great pictures Ruth. The Cooper's that I see are young birds that still have the spotted chest.

  8. Each picture is beautiful, each bird is pretty. I especially like the purple finch - I don't think we have those around here. We have red winged black birds but I never paid much attention to them. They're gorgeous, aren't they. Diane

  17. Beautiful series! The shot of the Purple Finch is gorgeous. I always enjoy seeing shots of birds we don't get here. How exciting to find a Coopers Hawk nest, and it will be even more so if you are able to get some shots of the babies.

  18. In spite of the warm spring weather we have had, the birds have not returned faster than usual. But the leaves have come out very early making it harder to see migrating birds when they do come.

  19. Wonderful birding photos. I wish we still had the Purple Finch at our Rockwood yard, but am glad I did get to see one pair in person. Lucky that you get to see them each year.

  22. Hi Ruth, how i wish you were nearer so i can bring you to my place in the province, so you can take photos of the birds there. We have lots of them too, but my short Oly lens cannot give justice to the shots! As much as i would like to have shots like yours, i still dont have the resource for that kind of lens. So it will stay as a dream! Thanks also for always visiting my posts.
