More Winter Beauty

Today I would like to show you a few more pictures I took before Christmas.
I enjoyed the time spent outside,in the beauty of God's creation.
I trust you will enjoy these images as you stay warm in the comfort of your own home.

It was midday, but because I was shooting towards the sun the picture looks quite dark.

I like how the snow is coming over the edge.
This picture was taken at the same place as the other one, just in the opposite direction.

Again, another picture from much the same place.
I guess this just shows that there are a variety of scenes in one small area.

As I turned my eyes to look towards the ground,I saw this snow covered weed.

Finally a picture which was taken a few miles down the road from the first four.
The friend I was with taught me how to get the sunburst effect.
This was also taken mid afternoon, and the sky was really a bright blue, but when shooting toward the sun, this was the effect.
I liked how it turned out.

I hope you enjoyed this adventure into my snowy world.

Thought for today:
He has made everything beautiful in its time.
Ecclesiastes 3:11

  4. The first picture almost looks like a black and white! I like the one with the snow coming over the edge like icing on a cake. I need to know how to make the sun look like a starburst like that! Do you need a special filter? Great pictures!

  6. I do love your photos dear Ruth, and the last one is stunning!

I'm sitting here watching the juncos spar with one another over who dominates the suet and bird feeders. We currently have 28 degrees F so all is frozen, a winterlike wonderland.. indeed God's creation.

I hope this year brings you many blessings.

  17. Spectacular Ruth - the winter can bring such beauty (and looks like you have quite a bit of snow). I'm glad you're out there with your camera and sharing these with us ! These are perfect !

I drove a school bus for 3 years - and posted this a long time ago in honour of school bus drivers.

  18. Lovely snowy pictures Ruth. Glad you got out in the sunshine with a good friend -- does the soul good.

It snowed here all day and is still snowing. We didn't get on a walk today.

Going to see the new Narnia movie with some ladies from the home group tomorrow night. Poor Mingus!

  19. Lovely shots, especially your last shot of the sunburst. You're very right about the variety of scenes you can get in just a small area. You just have to open your eyes and your mind. I shot some photos into the sun yesterday and it does really give you some intersting effects when it is low in the sky.

  33. Beautiful snow scenes, Ruth. I love the sunburst effect! Now I want to try getting that effect.

I'm typing this (1/7/11) as we're driving down Interstate 5 to Long Beach (south of L.A.). We're spending tonight at our youngest son's house tonight and then going on a cruise for a week, so I won't have interntet access starting tomorrow afternoon till the following Saturday. I posted a few things ahead of time, though.

  36. What a glorious world surrounds you. If I were there, i would probably shoot myself silly or until my finger dropped off. Your cold snowy landscapes are so reminiscent of the lost homeland of my youth.
