A Few of My Birds

As I wait for the last of the winter snow to disappear,I will share with you some of my winter birds.

This is a  Dark-eyed Junco taking off.
I like how this turned out.

I have seen only three Common Redpolls at my feeders this winter. This male is so pretty. It looks to me like he is posing for just the right picture.

As if on cue,he tilts his head so we can see that gorgeous red cap better.

The Black-capped Chickadee doesn't seem to think that the Redpoll should get all the attention.
I guess I am glad that I don't understand 'bird' language, but he seems to be saying something.

As a final shot, here is one of my favourite raptors,a Bald Eagle. This was taken this year, and has been the only adult Eagle I have had a chance to shoot.

Thought for Today:
If you want to be rich, count all the things you have that money can't buy.

  6. What wonderful pictures, Ruth! The junco takeoff is really good, none of mine have come out. And the chickadee, you can even see his tongue!!! I've never seen a redpoll, they look a bit like a male house finch.

  7. The Black-capped Chickadee is still one of my favorites. Yesterday we had a flock of Cedar Wax wings visit.

  13. Superb shots, Ruth - great capture of that junco in flight, and you caught that Redpoll showing you his good sides ! Fantastic capture of the chickadee too, even though he was sticking his tongue out at you. ;-)

Wonderful quote - reminds me of the song that has lyrics " ... and you don't know what you got till it's gone !"

    Have a great Friday.

  15. Absolutely stunning photos. I especially like the first one. Eagles are not easy to shoot they are very sneaky. I have an area where they appear, but not for long.

  21. Beautiful bird photos, Ruth! They are so full of expression.

I awoke to a curved billed Thrasher singing to me on my chimney! They have almost as many songs as a Mockingbird...so heartwarming.

    Blessings!

  31. Your winter birds are beautiful and very well shot, Ruth. Chickadees are such cheerful birds. They often make me smile. I'm not sure I have ever seen a redpoll in my yard but I will look for them next winter. I am sad that the juncos may be gone for this year though. I think they are such sweet birds. Your photo of the junco taking off is wonderful!

  39. I have truly been blessed by the Lord. I have so many wonderful things in my life, a great family, a loving husband, two cute little poodles that are excited to see me every day. My life isn't perfect, but I don't think it is supposed to be. If everything was perfect all of the time, we wouldn't know how blessed we are when something good happens.

  40. Your pictures of the Redpoll are absolutely stunning. I agree that the Chickadee is saying something, and I also think I'm glad I don't know what it is.

  44. That is an outstanding photo of the junco - worth paying money for! I have always liked them and have seen them many times in the mountains of the southern U.S., where they spend summer in the high elevations and then "migrate" to the valleys for the winter.

  45. Ruth, it would be fun to sit and sip iced tea with you in the shade of our willow trees, watching the waterfowl and talking about life!
