More Birds

Once again I am sharing more birds pictures.All of these were taken in 2010,on March 31,by me.
It seems that early spring is the time for birds around here.It is too early for any flowers outside,and I'm getting tired of showing snow images.They may have more appeal in the heat of summer.
The following pictures were all taken in St.Vital Park,Winnipeg,Manitoba.

Notice that this  Mallard is on the water,but there is  still ice as well.I can almost imagine that it is walking on water.

In another area of the park,closer to the river,there was a fair amount of overland flooding.During normal times this area is grass and a place where families have their picnics.
Looks like only the Canada Geese are having a picnic on this day.

This image is from much the same area as the one above.The reflections caught my eye.

Looking closer to where I was standing,the reflections had a different yet pleasing look.

Yet another reflection shot.No need to explain this one.

Talking of reflections.I have recently reflected on the verse in Romans 8:28,which goes like this.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,who have been called according to his purpose.
I know that God is good and all that He does is good.
Knowing this and feeling it are two very different things.Many times I don't see the good in what God is doing.
Do I trust Him any less?No.
I choose to believe that what looks and feels like pain now will someday prove to be good.Some day it will all make sense.

  7. Often when death has taken our loved ones,
    Leaving our home so lone and so drear,
    Then do we wonder why others prosper,
    Living so wicked year after year.
    Farther along we’ll know more about it,
    Farther along we’ll understand why;
    Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
    We’ll understand it all by and by.
    Soon we will see our dear, loving Savior,
    Hear the last trumpet sound through the sky;
    Then we will meet those gone on before us,
    Then we shall know and understand why.

    These words from Farther Along really come to mind when reading your post today. I love the mallard walking on water, that picture is priceless! And I do love the goose admiring himself in the mirror of the water.

  9. Mallards have such brilliant colors, and you certainly captured them in your photo. I also enjoyed the geese in the picnic area, especially the one apparently just landing, with wings still outspread. Very nice.

  11. Ruth - lately I have been dwelling on all the bad things happening in my life. Oh - it is so easy to just want to lie down and give up - but I can't. God doesn't want that for me. Your verse and words at the end of your post brought the lyrics of the song "Farther Along" to my mind. A wonderful old hymn- I hope to keep in the forefront of my mind today. Love the birds in your post - similar to mine this morning!

    Tempted and tried, we’re oft made to wonder
    Why it should be thus all the day long;
    While there are others living about us,
    Never molested, though in the wrong.

    Refrain:
    Farther along we’ll know more about it,
    Farther along we’ll understand why;
    Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
    We’ll understand it all by and by.

    Sometimes I wonder why I must suffer,
    Go in the rain, the cold, and the snow,
    When there are many living in comfort,
    Giving no heed to all I can do.

    Tempted and tried, how often we question
    Why we must suffer year after year,
    Being accused by those of our loved ones,
    E’en though we’ve walked in God’s holy fear.

    Often when death has taken our loved ones,
    Leaving our home so lone and so drear,
    Then do we wonder why others prosper,
    Living so wicked year after year.

    “Faithful till death,” saith our loving Master;
    Short is our time to labor and wait;
    Then will our toiling seem to be nothing,
    When we shall pass the heavenly gate.

    Soon we will see our dear, loving Savior,
    Hear the last trumpet sound through the sky;
    Then we will meet those gone on before us,
    Then we shall know and understand why.

  18. It is still cold where you are I hope it warms up for you soon. Your post reminds me of where I go, it is hard for me to sit and enjoy it right now because of the gnats. Also the birds seem to be in a nest building mode right now. They are hard to capture.

  25. Great pictures Ruth and great bible verse..one of my favorites. So true sometimes it is so hard to see the good come out of something that we find so difficult. God is in control and knows our every need. We have a winter storm watch coming our way and it is a little disheartening,but the storm will pass and out will come the sun. Take care.

  26. Great shots, Ruth; wonderful reflections.

    Excellent verse but one that we struggle with as mere mortals who are always striving to know His ways. We need to heed "Be still and know that I am God."

  27. Romans 8:28 - Powerful and true and oh so giving of our Great God!! It takes the worry out of living (if only we would always remember...:) )
    Blessings to you, Ruth!

  29. These are wonderful pictures. I really like the reflections you've captured.
    When my wife died I also had trouble feeling the good promised in Roman 8:28. It took a year or more, but I now know and feel it more than ever.
