Family Time

I live in southern Manitoba,Canada, and around here the weather can change very quickly.Spring is especially variable in weather. Here are a few pictures taken last weekend.

I had my granddaughter,Kai at my house on Saturday.
She and I decided to take advantage of the lovely warm day and head to the Pembina Valley for the Hawk Watch.
For a change she was willing to pose for me,holding my binoculars.

Almost as soon as we got out of the car, this Bald Eagle came over. This was her first sighting of  a Bald Eagle.
She was quite impressed.

Soon after that we saw this Red-tailed Hawk soar overhead.
I think I might be able to make a birder out of her.
If it doesn't happen,it won't be because I didn't try.

Sunday morning we woke up to this.
Heavy wet snow coming down.
It snowed off and on all day,and by the end of the day we had quite a layer.

The snow did not stop my family from celebrating Steve's birthday.I had a house full of people and we had a great time.
Take note of the cake,it was carefully decorated by Kai,with a little help from Grandma.
The love that went into doing this made the cake very special.
These two people mean the world to me.
We had two other people who also had birthdays around this time,so that is why the extra names on the cake.

I am so thankful that some of Jake's family could come out to join us for the party,as well as some friends.

Thought for Today:
Daily thank the Lord for His gifts.
Today I thank Him for the gift of family.

  12. What a precious granddaughter - you're right - family is the most important thing on earth - beyond all riches, this is the greatest gift bestowed on us, despite the warts and wrinkles sometimes of family life !

Great bird shots - I think Kai is on her way to becoming a birder and likely a famous photographer too !

  13. What a sweetheart Kai is! I'm sure seeing her delight in seeing an eagle for the first time made the day very special for you, and making Steve's birthday cake together was just as much fun too. The gift of family is the best gift of all.

  16. What a wonderful occasion and so nice of them to come to your place. I was thrilled to see Kai again. I fell in love with her from first setting eyes on her when you were baking together a couple of years ago. Kai is quite the poised young lady now sharing the limelight with her handsome father.

A joyful day for you indeed.

  17. Ruth, What a lovely time you must have had with your granddaughter, Kai. She is adorable. With your encouragement, she will learn to love nature as you do--what a nice thing to pass on to her. How exciting to see a red hawk and an eagle (big bonus to actually get a shot of them). Have a lovely weekend. Mickie :)

  19. How fun to see an Eagle with your granddaughter. Just a suggestion, we bought Peterson Bird ID Books for the kids and started putting the place and date (and maybe who they were with) down next to the drawings as we saw them in the wild. She might like this little bird viewing diary too!
