Eagles and More

Seeing it is the end of the month,it is time to share another post.
I have picked a few of my favourite pictures.

All of these pictures were taken on March 17,2012.

This little Red-breasted Nuthatch visited the feeder at my house.
I always enjoy seeing these guys. They allow one to get fairly close.
I have them at my feeders all year, and I love that.

From my house we head to the Pembina Valley. I hope you are not getting tired of seeing pictures from that area.I love being at the Hawk Watch and of course pictures follow naturally.
A pair of eastern Bluebirds were checking out a nest box just across the road from where we were sitting. Here the male is checking to see if all is well.

At one point during the day we were treated to a bit of a tussle between an immature Bald eagle and a Common Raven.
I think the Raven had underestimated the size of its opponent.

I am not quite sure what is happening here, but they seem very close together.
It was shortly after this picture was taken that the Raven veered  off and left the Eagle to carry on.Wise choice,in my opinion.

I think this may well be my best ever shot of a Bald Eagle.
The light was just perfect and the bird was fairly low.
This was one of those moments where all eyes were on this one bird and many exclamations of joy were heard.
I am thrilled to have gotten this picture. The warm late afternoon light makes those wings glow.

Thought for today:
No bird soars too high,if he soars with his own wings.

Wonderful bird shots and observations Ruth and I love the thought for the day!

The nuthatch is a beauty, as is the bluebird. Ah, but the majestic eagle. That was indeed a great shot.

This is a beautiful eagle photo! And I love the one of the raven and the eagle. Here, the smaller birds chase the large hawks and give them a fit! But my favorite photo here has to be the little nuthatch. I have only seen one once or twice, and think they are adorable!! I love watching the way they walk down a tree trunk head first! Your header is beautiful!

Awesome, Ruth... I especially love that last shot... Incredible!!! I have been watching the baby eagles at Decorah, Iowa on their webcam. The Mom and Dad are SO good to the babies... And --the babies are just so cute.

Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Betsy

Ruth, those are stunning photos. I don't tire of seeing them. I also love that amazing blue sky and not a cloud floating across! That little bluebird is adorable. Such pretty colors! Your header for April is awesome!

Used to see ravens and crows chasing eagles quite often. The eagles were oblivious to the blackbirds. Sometimes I believe the eagle was to close to their nest or had invaded their territory.
Territories will be defended, no matter the size and be ware the mother.

Nice shots.

Oh.. that beautiful baldie.. what a treat. Your nuthatch is adorable.. we have those around our feeder, also. But the bluebirds.. I've only ever seen those on blogs. Lovely critters - one and all.

Beautiful series of shots! The last one of the eagle soaring is fantastic! I love your header--just perfect for April. I do miss seeing crocuses poke their heads out in the spring.

fantastic header and the birds are perfect for the first of April. I like that double shot, whatever they were doing. he looks like he was trying to refuel the eagle. great shots and the first one is so preicous

Your quote is perfect with these shots. The softness of bluebirds is one of my favorite.

They are all lovely shots. We watched a battle between a Sea Eagle "shopping" for lunch and a seagull for quite some time. Finally the eagle gave up and dove into the sea and came up with a fish. Fascinating to watch.

Soar with eagles instead of walking with turkeys!! It is a photographer's dream to get a good eagle shot. I think your dream came true. Majestic!

You take some of the best bird shots I have ever seen! I love red-breasted nuthatches, They are always welcome at my feeders. I am so jealous of your eastern bluebird, though. I have never seen one except in photos. I'll keep looking!

Awesome shots of the birds, Ruth ! Yes, you got the light just right to illuminate that eagle - majestic.

Very nice work on that peonies collage. And I love your colourful header.

We'll be heading north in a few weeks - hopefully spring will have arrived there by then ;-)

[glad the Blue Angels brought back some nice memories for you]

First of all, I love your header--"Yes, He has!"

I had some of those red breasted nuthatches here the first summer I started taking bird pictures, but I haven't seen them since. They are so photogenic.

The picture of the raven hovering over the eagle, looked like two planes refueling!

Have a Blessed Easter!

A beautiful selection of photographs, Ruth.

I have seen crows harassing large hawks on several occasions and could never understand why they do it, but it makes for great photos.

Fantastic bird shots, Ruth. I really like the ones of the hawk and eagle interacting and testing each other. The single eagle in flight is spectacular!

Your last photo (of the bald eagle) is amazing. The light on the wings is truly beautiful. Of course, all of your pictures are marvelous as ever. I like your picture of the nuthatch.

Awwwww Miss Ruth, all your pictures are simply breathtakingly beautiful but ya had me at that little Nuthatch. Sweet!!!

I feed the wild songbirds year round here on the Ponderosa and always hate to see the Hawks or Eagles scopin' out the bird buffet! Heeehehehe!

God bless ya and have yourself an excellent day sweetie!!! :o)

I never tire of any pictures you post Ruth. I love each and every one. I haven't seen a Red-breasted nuthatch in years here. Not sure why either. Cool eagle shots. You have a special place to see then. How lucky.
Love the colors in your header.

I think I would choose to be a bird if I could be anything other than me... to fly like that - in total freedom... to ride the winds... lovely.
