More Gulls

I have a few more images to share from my trip to Winnipeg on April 6,2012.
Over the years I have gotten so many pictures of gulls, but I am always willing to take more, when the opportunity presents itself.

This one did a quick touch and go as he grabbed a morsel of free food out of the water. They are so quick when they do this, that often I pressed the shutter button too late.

Something tells me that Mr.Mallard was not happy to have the gull this close.
I love those wings spread out over the mallard in a protecting fashion.

Of course no trip to St.Vital Park would be complete without at least one Wood Duck picture.OK,so I took more than one,but I will only show you this one.
The colour of the water and that of the female are almost identical.
I like how she blended into the picture.

I also spent a short amount of time at Ft. Whyte Nature Center.
I was obviously not the only one who wanted to walk the trails.
These two waddled along as if they were enjoying the sights and the weather.

Here is one more shot of the catkins in bloom.I love how they look against that blue sky.For some reason, seeing this makes my heart sing.

Thought for today
Joy in looking and comprehending is nature's most beautiful gift.

  13. We have a wood duck couple that has come to the pond. I love their look- it's like they were painted. You picture of the gull was just perfect! And those geese walking down the path- so cute!

  14. I loved the pictures with the outstretched wings...And aren't wood ducks just too gorgeous! We usually have wood ducks in our valley in the spring after we have a lot of rain and water standing; however, this year has been different. So far, I haven't seen them; and if the leaves get much fuller on the trees, I won't.

  28. Lovely as always, Ruth. Gulls, common as they are, are such beautiful poetry in motion and impossible to resist. I have a few shots on my camera which I'm hoping have turned out well but if not, I'll just come back and enjoy yours.

I love the Wood duck. I've only ever seen one around here. He used to come around to our local pond for a few weeks, 3 years in a row. He either tried to mate with, or did in fact pair up with a female Mallard. Amazingly beautiful birds.

    Spring... ahhhhhh! :)

  32. I'm catching up on your blog after a long absence--I've been busy busy busy. I loved all your gull and geese shots. It's amazing how long the gull's wings are in the first shot (& the 2nd one, too)! My favorite photo is the one of the male & female wood ducks. The male's coloration is fantastic and and at first I could only see the eyes of the female. God gives some animals such wonderful protection with their camouflage colors!

  33. Nice. I'm always partial to Canada geese because I know they're very protective of their mates ... I like that part of nature.

  34. The gull's wings are so beautiful. It does look as if the mallard is sassing the gull, though. I might have missed seeing the female wood duck if you hadn't pointed her out. There's not much prettier than a male wood duck, and yours is a beautiful shot.
