December 1 has arrived. With it come all kinds of preparations for Christmas, and Yes,I will choose to call it Christmas with a capital 'C',because it is the birth of Christ which we celebrate.
I realized that the last couple of posts have been fairly dull coloured so today I give you some colour.
Looking out of my back door one morning, this is what greeted me.I love those gorgeous sunrises. This is what makes getting up early so worth it.
Maybe not that much colour, but beauty just the same. Trees covered in hoarfrost get my attention every time.
On that same frosty afternoon,I saw these shadows cast by the poplar trees.
Back on my yard. From my kitchen window I can see the birds. The next two pictures are taken through the window.
The female Hairy Woodpecker stopped for a moment on her way up the tree,so I could get this picture.
Last, but certainly not least is the Blue Jay.He is sitting on the same tree as the woodpecker was on.
You can see that both pictures were taken on the same day. It was snowing and that made for some great background effects.
Thought for Today:
God's presence with us is one of the greatest presents to us.

That first picture is a real beauty!! Another favorite is the frosty or snow covered Pine!!!
I like to see the birds fluffed up against the cold!
Merry CHRISTmas!
Beautiful photos as usual!
Hi Ruth...That is a gorgeous sunrise, and the tree covered with hoarfrost is amazing...we don't get much of that happen here!
Great one of the Blue jay with the special effects : )
I say Merry Christmas...Happy Holidays is not part of my vocabulary!!Don't take the Christ out of Christmas : }!!

gorgeous! the blue jay in the snow is just adorable! love your brilliant pinks, too!
WoW ruth, these are really outstanding!!
my favorites are our feathered friends enjoying the snow.....& i am certain someone is feeding them well.
the jay is my absolute favorite, he looks, on so comfortable!!
Wow, you are in the season of winter already...the snow is beautiful to look at!
Some lovely wintery shots. Love the blue jay.
Your sunset shot is magnificent. A glorious end to the gift of a day!!
Just beautiful Ruth. Will you warm up enough to melt the snow or will it stay for the rest of the winter. It's pretty brown here but I'm not complaining :)
The sunrise photo is gorgeous. I'm not a morning person, so I rarely catch the beautiful sunrises. I'm glad when others do, though. The bluejay, all fluffed out and perched on a limb in the snow, is a lovely portrait.
Beautiful, Ruth!! I love the snow falling in the bird pictures, gorgeous sunrise, and what a perfect thought for today. Thank you!
Ruth, it will always be with a capital "C"
Your images are wonderful! The two bird shots are spectacular. And that sunrise is breath taking. I always remember those morning where the hoar frost covered everything, We used to walk a mile to the school bus stop down a forested county lane and it was always magical when it had been frosty like that!
AWE inspiring colors in the first and those poplars are beautiful and i have never seen these trees.
Oh my goodness, one is more beautiful as the next!!! And great variety. The beautiful sky with the tree silhouette, the frosty tree, the birds. I think I like the hoarfrost one the best. What is the difference between hoarfrost and regular frost anyway?
Super photos today, Ruth!! I really like that Blue Jay shot.
You always make it very hard to have a favorite as each one has a unique beauty! Love that hoarfrost pine! Because of Ginny's question, I googled hoarfrost and learned a little more about it! Nothing quite like it! LOVE the sunrise colours!
Each of these is beautiful, Ruth. Diane
Stunning shots, Ruth. My son is living in Cold Lake, Alberta and was awed by how beautiful hoarfrost is. He'd never seen it before and I've never seen it in person.
Lovely group of photos Ruth. I've not seen a tree covered in hoarfrost. I guess that's what white Christmas tree are imitating - makes more sense to me now.
Hi Ruth,
with your title you're right, the colors of winter .. if winter would just look ever so nice .. :-))
greetings Frank
Beautiful series, Ruth! The blue jay shot especially captures my eye.
Wow! Only a sky God could create....We haven't seen our first snowly day this year--just a few snowflakes. Very pretty!
Oh that sky is absolutely beautiful. It looks like the whole sky is a rainbow.
Wow---great pictures--all of them. My favorite winter color is WHITE --since I love snow so much. We haven't seen a speck so far this year... Sigh!!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
This time of year it's tricky to find colour but you did it well! It looks way more Christmas-y there than it does here. I really like the photo of the blue jay with snow falling all around it.
I need to comment one more time. I immediately thought of you while I was in church Sunday morning. We were studying the words to the hymn, "O Holy Night" and when the line was read, "Yonder breaks a new a glorious morn," I could clearly see your picture in my mind.
They're all wonderful! The frosted trees are absolutely my favorite. Thanks for sharing them Ruth.
On the Hairy and the Blue jay would make Wonderful Christmas cards!
LOVE that you captured them with the snow falling!
Magnificent!
Hi Ruth, A wonderful post and, yes, the color is great. I also appreciate your comment about capital C on Christmas. I wish we could get back to focusing more on that than all this other stuff. Have a great day and thank you, as always, for your comments on John's Island. John
The sky in your first photo is gorgeous, and the tree with the hoarfrost is beautiful. You've definitely added some color in the month of December.
Wonderful skies Ruth, I love the mornings when they show on the lake.
Hi Ruth - oh wow - what color!! And I love that tree shot - with the pom poms of snow. So beautiful! Merry Christmas to you!!
Your photos never cease to amaze me. They are so beautiful!
