Snow,Family and a Bird

I am still playing with my new camera. On Monday we were in the midst of a blizzard.Steve brought Kai over to my place and because I was standing at the window, camera in hand,I was able to get a couple of action shots. He has a four-wheel drive vehicle so this snow drift was not a big problem.

This is what it looked like right after he came through.Fun stuff,as long as I don't need to go out.

Kai will not allow me to take her picture very often, but Grandma can be sneaky sometimes.
Here she was sitting with her Mom and I could get this pretty shot. She is such a beautiful girl.

I was allowed to take a close-up picture of her earring.Right now it seems that its all about 'peace signs'. The fact that these earrings are very sparkly is a great bonus.Sparkles and peace signs make a great combination in her mind.

And just to prove that I am still taking pictures of birds, here is a sweet Black-capped Chickadee.I took this from on my deck, using the powerful zoom of the CanonSX50 HS.I am quite pleased with the quality of the picture.

We had an extra day off on Tuesday. The storm was over and the sun was shinning, but many of the country roads were impassable. As a School Bus Driver,I look forward to these storm days,as much as any child.
I do hope this is our last blizzard of the winter, but in reality,we could get several more.
I may have used today's thought before, but I think it is fitting again.

Thought for Today:
No winter lasts forever;
No spring misses its turn.

  5. Here is what I like about your chickadee. He looks cold and puffed up, yet he is still looking up!!! Kai is growing up and turning into a beautiful young lady. And is that the hint of a dimple I see? She is quite stunning! Too bad she doesn't want her picture taken! The peace sign, does she know how popular they were in the sixties? But the sparkle is new...maybe if you start giving her jewelry, she will let you take pictures of her!!

  6. Ruth, ah, Manitoba blizzards! How I miss them! Not!
But it's all fun, isn't it.
I read up on your new camera the other day. Sounds quite impressive. What a fantastic zoom! 1200 mm equivalent!
Funny my eldest granddaughter is really into the "Peace" symbol too!

  13. Wow! That's a lot of snow! I love that it wasn't enough to keep Steve and Kai from coming to your house. The camera is amazing. I would have thought that the image stabilization would be a problem with that much zoom, but you've captured some great shots. I think I'm feeling a little twinge of jealousy.

  14. Kai is so cute, and gosh so much snow...hope you don't drive the bus until it goes away. I am so impressed with the new camera, I really am thinking of getting the same canon camera. Have you found any negatives with it that I should know about before I decide to get it. thanks Ruth. I mostly am worried that I will not get the zoom I need, but your chickadee shot has great detail. cheers.

I don't envy you all that snow. We have not had a lot so far this winter. Just enough to make us look forward to Spring.

  18. What a pretty young lady you have there! Such gorgeous blue eyes! Haven't been paying attention here that the peace sign is back and this time glitzy! I'm glad it's warm inside your house because Kai is not wearing a woolly sweater to keep warm. Can't say the same for the outside, eh! I LOVE snow days too! Have a great week-end - mine begins this afternoon, LOL!!

  22. Ruth, Kai is a beautiful child! I think "stolen" shots of people are always the best because they are not posing. She looks deep in thought here. Love the earrings. I still love the peace sign. Reminds me of my hippy days. :) Hope the harshness of winter will be over soon for you!

  28. Oh my goodness, that is a lot of snow! Ruth, you captured Kai's beauty and innocence in such a captivating way. She is so very pretty! It's always fun to experiment with a new camera. I can see it is working well for you. Stunning chickadee photograph!

  29. Wow, you get a lot of snow!! I think it's a lot of snow if we get 6 inches, which is extremely rare, and then it's all gone in a few days.

Kai is indeed a beautiful little girl! You are fortunate to be able to see her fairly often. I only see my grands about once or twice a year since they're 500 miles away.
