Springtime Birds

It is no secret that I enjoy the birds all year round, but in spring there is a special excitement with the returning birds.

Yes,Blue Jays stay in our area all year, for which I am very thankful. They brighten the winter landscape.

The next three pictures are long distance ones. You can get a feel of what I was seeing.
The Canada Geese were excited and creating a lot of noise.I so wish that they had chosen to do all this closer to me,but that was not to be.Yes,I could have cropped the pictures more heavily, but I really prefer not to do that.

I shot a sequence of pictures and these are just two of them.Even at this distance,I enjoyed watching the action.

When all else fails, turn to the Gulls. These birds are more plentiful and therefore somewhat easier to photograph.

To think about:
Anything under God's control is never out of control.

  1. I really enjoyed your photos of the geese. You also got a wonderful picture of the blue jay. We don't see them in winter around here.

  2. I simply LOVE the quote! Of course, I love your birds, too, especially the Geese! Looks like they are walking on water and having fun playing in the water! The Blue Jay is a beautiful bird and your picture shows him off perfectly.

  5. I love these captures!! Birds are my absolute favorite thing about spring (with the possible exception of soothing rain storms). I love when birdsong fills the air :)

  7. Wonderful photos once again dear Ruth. I love the Blue Jay, even though I'm not crazy about their squawking bird voice. They are here year round too as are the Mocking birds.

Have a lovely Friday with a nice weekend and Mother's Day Sunday. Love & hugs ~ FlowerLady

  8. you truly have a gift of photography. so lovely. thanks for sharing. we are having lots of rain this week, usually which follows with wind. not a fun cycle. i often wonder what it would be like to visit Ireland and all those green lands. i joke that it would be similar to here ... usually when this happens i get a visit from the copperhead. fingers crossed that won't happen. Happy Mother's Day to you. have a blessed one, hope you will be with your family. ( :

  11. We love our Bluejays also --although many people consider them nuisance birds... I love feeding them peanuts in a shell.... We only have jays during Spring/Summer/Fall---but I don't know where they go in winter....

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  15. Wonderful shot of the Jay.. handsome (noisy) beast that it is. I have also witnessed some of that flapping.. splashing.. squawking between geese and between mallards. And just yesterday I caught my first glimpse of goslings. Spring is wonderful.. and you're photos illustrate that so beautifully.

  17. I like your jays so much Ruth, We have the ones that are all blue. We are overloaded with Canada Geese here on our island. They have found out that it is easy living here.

  18. Beautiful shots of these lovelies! We also have jays around all year but they seem more plentiful in winter months. I came across a Canadian goose family (3 little ones) swimming in a pond the other day...I took pics but they were too far away and not very blog-worthy. As far away as we are from the shore, we occasionally see gulls flying over parking lots. I guess they think it's water...lol!
