Time Well Spent

Back on December 30th,I got a call from Steve, wondering if I wanted to join him on photo walk.
I needed no time to decide, this sounded great.
He picked me up and we went about a mile out of town to the local lake.
The scenery was gorgeous as we walked along the edge of the frozen lake.
Here are a few pictures I got that day.
I have many more but they still need to be edited,so will come at a future date.

I always enjoy capturing the photographer at work.
You can see that the trees were gorgeous with a layer of hoarfrost and some snow.

If you look over Steve's shoulder, you can see that the beavers have taken down some of the smaller trees. We saw a lot of beaver activity,in the form of chewed up tree trunks. Some of the trees were too large and they had not been able to get them down.

You can see the camera hanging from Steve's shoulder, but he also wanted to see how this would look with the iPhone.

Here I captured a picture of the picture.
The digital age allows us to experiment without adding cost to the end result.
It makes photography even more enjoyable.

Of course I had to get in close to really see how the picture looked on the iPhone.
I must say it does a pretty good job,but I won't be selling my cameras anytime soon.

Thanks Steve for making my day by asking me to join you. I had a wonderful time and hope we can do it again.

Thought for Today:
Today,be thankful for the beauty, the peace, and the marvel of nature.

  1. i have seen really good photos on blogs taken with iphones, they do a great job and are always with the photographer and easy to carry. a beautiful snowy day in the woods. so happy you had a good time and got out with your camera.

  2. Nothing makes a favorite hobby more enjoyable than doing it with a loved one who enjoys it as much as you do. It's so neat that you and Steve can share your love of photography together.

  3. Beautiful photos! Sounds like you had a really nice time. I don't have an iPhone, but I did just upgrade to an LG Ignite Smart Phone with a 5 MP camera. Haven't used it much yet though.

  4. Good afternoon Ruth...what fun, going out in the snow and doing the things that you love to do most..You are a great photographer and I love seeing all the new pictures that you post. I also love seeing what other parts of the country look like at this time of the year...
Glad you had a good time...

  5. You do take awesome photos Ruth and you've passed those photo genes on to your son! So cool to get a day doing stuff together that you both enjoy! Blessings to you! Love the scenery - of course - having lived in MB many years!

  6. This is a very cool concept, to take a picture of the picture, and while it is still aimed at the real thing! You always take such interesting and wonderful pictures, Ruth! It does look a bit slippery and hazardous out there, be careful, my friend!

  7. i love the brown grasses and stark trees with the snow! nice! can't wait to see more!

  8. I know you and Steve had a great time together. The blacks and whites make beautiful pictures. Diane

  9. Love that fourth shot the most! Dueling technologies! Please come enter it in my 'Weekly Top Shot' meme? We're on Week #13 and I'd love to see you share with me and my readers! Here's this weeks' link:

  10. Ruth, I am so happy for you to have such a wonderful son take you on a fun expedition. Whenever ours visits I learn so much in the brief hours he is able to spend with us.

Wonderful photos of your rugged up photographer and surroundings.
My daughter daughter uses her iphone most of the time and no longer carts around her heavy camera on overseas trips. I have thought about investing in one as well for those times when you are out shopping and something catches your eye.

  11. Hi Ruth...I still love your header : }
    So nice that and Steve could get out there and marvel at God's handy work "beautiful" : }

  12. I'm so glad you and Steve have/take/make the time to do something together that you both love. I love that you photograph the photographer at work!...and thanks for letting us peek over his shoulder!

  13. I love that picture of the picture on the phone, plus the fact that it looks like Narnia--if only there were a lamp post off in the distance . . . thank you for pointing out the beaver's food supply. I knew they cut down tree, I'd never seen their harvesting before. Pretty cool!

  14. Looks like you had a great day and time spent with Steve. time well spent..

  15. What a perfect "gift" of a day for both of you.

  16. Marvellous to be able to go out with a fellow photographer, and especially to such a beautiful place (then again, beautiful places can be found almost anywhere if you're looking for it).

I've learned that it's not the equipment but the equipment operator who makes the shot.

Beautiful photos Ruth. Have a peaceful Sunday.

  17. Really good photographers will go anywhere --even walk in water---to get the perfect shot...I love watching them... Your son is definitely a REAL photographer, like his mother.

    Great pictures.

  18. Ruth is was so nice you were able to get out with your camera and enjoy the day with Steve. It looks like you both had a great day! Love the photos.
Thank you also for stopping by. I haven't been on my computer or out with my camera much lately. Been busy working and helping my mom as much as I can. I know there is a time and when it is the right time I will be able to once again get out with my camera. As much as I enjoy it, Loved ones come first.
Take care and have a wonderful Sunday.
    God Bless you.
    Dianne :)

And you decided well. Great photos....
I wish I could have a litlle bit of snow!-....
    Beauty...and peace! YES!

  20. What a delightful day you had with your son. It's always fun to take photos of the other photographer when you are out together. I'll bet he got a few of you too.

  21. i don't know who steve is, i'm sure i should.

it fills my heart with joy to know that you have a steve, to share you passion/obsession with.

looking forward to more, the header is outstanding!!!

  22. Thanks for sharing your outing Ruth. I to like to look at a photographer at work. My BFF just bought an iPhone but I am like you not ready to trade in my camera. Take care and have a wonderful week, Jen.

  23. It's so nice to have someone who shares your passion to hang out with....other people just don't get us :)

Looks like you had a great day, and I love that you showed us the "behind the scene" shots.

  24. That must have been a really special day. Those are times when everything seems to sparkle.

Those last two pictures are like "a picture in a picture." We used to have something like that on a TV that we bought many years ago. We thought it was really great; however, I don't think we every used it--probably because we forgot how to make it work!

  25. Steve and you had a great day for your photography walk. It looks as if Steve is getting a pretty good picture with his iPhone. I have to admit that I've never used a cellphone camera.

  26. Great post.
But too chilly for me. Brrrrrrr

  27. What a lovely adventure. Time so well spent with your son. A memory maker kind of day.

  28. What a beautiful setting for photos and how nice to have someone to go shooting with you. That is interesting with the iPhone and the shot looks very clear. In another blog I visit...Keri's A Little Piece of Me....she has been experimenting with a lens you put on the iPhone and take macro. She is getting great shots! He might want to try one.

  29. Looks like you had a fun day- love that last shot of the picture of a picture.

  30. Looks like a fun photo walk. I really enjoyed seeing the pictures of the photographer in action and the ones through his phone.

  31. How nice that you were able to enjoy time spent with your son in such a beautiful winter setting. I've been seeing a lot of iPhone photographs of late. I am so surprised at how well they turn out. Love your "Thought for today". Fine photographs, wonderful post!

  32. i really love you photos, those are so beautifully captured.
    can't wait to see more!

  33. You have a wonderful sons and the wintry scenes are just beautiful!

  34. What great fun to go on a photo shoot together. I love how you illustrated his use of the iPhone. My son has one also, and I'm so impressed with the quality of the images. That's Apple for you. :)

  35. This is a really cool post Ruth. I especially like the fact you went out with Steve, and the one side shot of him resembles Jake.
    Have a wonderful week-end.
