As school bus driver I look forward to summer holidays as much as any student.
In Canada we have summer holidays from July 1st to the beginning of September.
I started my holiday time off by watching the local fireworks on July 1st,Canada Day.
These are my first attempts at photographing fireworks and I have a lot to learn.
I know that a tripod would have helped, but considering these shots are handheld,I think they are acceptable.
While waiting for the sun to set so the fireworks could begin,I took this picture.
The scene was so pretty, but I once again was lazy photographer and took this through the windshield of my car.
At home on my yard, this Grey Catbird has been hanging out around the house.I am pretty sure he has or had a nest somewhere close, but have never found it.
Flowers have been few on my yard, especially on the perennials.
I had to capture this Day Lily while it was there.I hope this plant continues to grow and give me more flowers next year.
I will be away from Blogland for a while,so if I don't leave comments on your blog, that is the reason.
I will be back before long, hopefully with more pictures to share.
This lily is it's own firework with the yellow stamen splashing out!! You did awesome for your first time, especially the second one, which is sharp and perfect! But this sky itself is even prettier. I hope you are alright?
ReplyDeleteenjoy your time off and those fireworks are much much more than acceptable... beautiful
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! The first firework photo looks like a palm tree to me. :-) Couldn't be because I live where there are palm trees in abundance could it?
ReplyDeleteHope you get more blooms from your lily next year. It is really pretty.
Enjoy your time away from the computer. :-)
Love and hugs ~ FlowerLady
Your fireworks photos turned out great. Hope you have a restful time away and we will be awaiting your return.
ReplyDeleteyou did great on the fireworks! love the catbird, too! enjoy being AWAY!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with the fireworks especially considering that you didn't have a tripod....
ReplyDeleteHave a nice BREAK.... We all need blog breaks from time to time.
Hugs,
Betsy
Your fireworks shots are great, Ruth! I also really like the peachy-pink day lily.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful vacation!
Those fireworks shots are great!
ReplyDeleteAll are gorgeous, Ruth. Your fireworks are great!
ReplyDeleteYou did good with the fireworks shots, but I especially like your day lily! We have no fireworks displays here for the 4th of July because it doesn't get dark, and especially this year because of the dry conditions and forest fires. There's a ban right now on all fireworks. January 1st is when we have the big fireworks display--plenty of dark then.
ReplyDeleteI think your fireworks shots are splendid and what a perfect day lily!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely break and enjoy your summer while it lasts.
The second fireworks shot looks especially nice. I took my camera to a show last night, but didn't get any...I have a LOT to learn too!
ReplyDeleteIf these photos are your first attempt at capturing fireworks, you did a marvelous job. Your day lily is beautiful -- we've certainly been enjoying ours. Enjoy your break (and your summer holiday) and come back with lots of great pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe fireworks photos came out beautifully. The sunset, catbird, and day lily are all lovely, too. Enjoy your time away from blogland, but don't forget to come back.
ReplyDeleteRuth, wonderful fireworks! What a thrill they are!
ReplyDeleteTwo months off! That's a thrill too!
Hope you have a great summer!
I think you did an excellent job at taking these photos.
ReplyDeleteI guess I didn't realize that school there, continued through June. Oh my....I think my kiddos would have a fall over and faint moment if they had to go throughout the month of June. Of course, we get a whole lot of heat even in the month of June.
hugs to you
your fireworks photos are beautiful as are all of them. I have a serviceberry shrub next to the pond and it is so fun to watch the catbirds eat the berries. They are pretty shy birds so hard to get a photo - yours is great.
ReplyDeleteI think your fireworks are quite nice! Enjoy the blog break...summer is going by too quickly not to enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteLove your frilly lily and those gorgeous fireworks photos!! Have a great break from blogland! Be blessed!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time away, Ruth. Yes, I hope you have many photos!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I love about daylilies is their tendency to slowly spread. It's such a pretty blossom/
These are great Ruth! The fireworks are awesome!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of the fireworks!! I take them handheld as well, just for fun!!
ReplyDeletePretty blooms, it's been too hot to go outside and take pictures!!
Lots of beautiful shots on this posting. Lovely photos.I hope you are enjoying your holidays and thanks for the like on my facebook page. Thanks for your comment. cheers
ReplyDeleteLove the fireworks but especially love your photo of the catbird. They are so interesting.
ReplyDeleteLovely fireworks....
ReplyDeleteYou did very well on the fireworks as well as the rest of the photographs. I have a special fondness for your flower shots.
ReplyDeleteBy the way the photos that you posted earlier with your point and shoot Canon inspired me to get one of that model for my daughter for her birthday and she loves it.
I think you did a fine job with the fireworks, Ruth. I don't do very well with them at all so I'm impressed. I love catbirds but find them rather elusive. Great photo.
