The Varied Faces of a Sunset

I enjoy heading out of town when it looks like we might be in for a pretty sunset.Sometimes I am rewarded with loads of beauty and at other times the sun sets with very little beauty.

The evening I am sharing today, proved to be one where the sunset gave me many photo opportunities and left me with a sense of awe and wonder.

Just touching the horizon and the area lights up with beauty.

A little later the sky is a blaze with colour. The clouds reflect the light of the setting sun and make an amazing scene in the sky.

As the sun settles in the colour begins to fade, but still there is so much beauty. The colours become softer and more pastel.

Turning the camera a little to one side or the other changes the look of the sky.The last pink strokes of colour will soon be fading away into night.

I always try to remind myself, when shooting a sunset, don't forget to look in the opposite direction.
Looking to the east on this night was well worth it. The clouds here were lit up by the last rays of the sun and gave me yet another pretty scene.

Thought for Today:
The sunrise is God's greeting -
the sunset ,His signature.

Seeing a beautiful sunset each time is like seeing one for the first time...at least for me...every one unique. This one was surely glorious!

Judging from the first photo, I wouldn't have expected the awesome colors of the second photo. Sometimes, after I give up on a glorious sunset, it happens. Your patience paid off this time!

Very beautiful, Ruth. I'm always amazed how fast it actually happens. Diane

I love that quote about the sunset and sunrise and God.. beautiful. the second shot is amazing and what a signature that is.... we always look to the opposite side of the sunrise, sometimes it is even prettier.

I think some of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen have been in the winter. Wonderful photos!

I'm always amazed how quickly the beauty comes and goes in sunrises and sunsets. You certainly were aware of that in catching the different phases.

Sure is beautiful photos.
I like the though for the day.
I always say that the Sunrise is God saying Good Morning and the Sunset Him saying Good Night to us. : )

Gorgeous colors! It is fascinating how much the colors change and soften. The pastels are just as pretty as the intense colors. Loved your thought for today. :)

I can never tell if a sunset is going to be worth chasing (finding a good spot from which to take a good photo) or not. But a beautiful sunset is worth the gamble. ;))

Beautiful sunsets! Sometimes the view to the East is even more colorful than the sunset.

What a glorious collection of sunsets Ruth! I love the different hues painted across the sky.. amber and gold being my favorite :) Nature is the best artist!

Yes, the sunrise is God's greeting and the sunset, his signature... WOW---love it.

Your photos are marvelous. There's nothing that takes my breath away more than a sunrise or sunset. Thanks.

I'm sad tonight. We have had to cancel our Valentine’s Trip to a little mountain town (Cashiers) in North Carolina. That horrible southern storm is going to give them from 6-10 inches of snow, plus sleet and power outages. We can’t even get into that area now… SAD–but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Hugs,
Betsy
