Is it a weed or is it a flower? You decide.I know what I call them and that is a flower.
A weed is simply a flower which is growing where I don't want it to. Since these flowers were growing in a natural environment,I don't consider them weeds.
I don't have names for some of them so they will all remain nameless.
Take a look at the beauty and allow that to brighten your day.

The question of weed or flower comes in here. These two flowers are from some Lobelia that dropped seeds last year and now these tiny flowers are blooming right beside one of my stepping stones.I didn't plant them there,so does that make them a weed? Not in my mind.I smile each time I see them.
In my simple way of thinking,I believe that if we would take more time to enjoy,even the flowers on a so-called weed,we would see more beauty and appreciate even the little things,more.
I encourage you,as I have done before,take time to stop and really see the beauty all around you,then give thanks to God,Who has created all of it.

i like blooming weeds and wild grasses as well as i like 'garden' variety. :) i think the 2nd one is tansy, but that's all i know.
'A rose by any other name would smell as sweet'. These flowers are beautiful regardless of the name given them.
They are so pretty, and I don't know what any of them are!!! The second picture is very unusual! If weeds were very hard to find and grow, people would be lining up to buy them.
I share your definition of a weed. If it's growing in the wrong place, no matter what it is, it's a weed, and flowers blooming in a natural environment should be enjoyed. Of course, we have some very lovely invasive weeds growing here that choke out the natural flora. We have a particular problem with bird vetch, which wraps itself around everything and chokes it out. I think my favorite flowers are those that have reseeded themselves in unlikely places and thrive with no assistance from me. Violas are especially good at that.

A lot of weeds are wild flowers. Some can be a nuisance, but most are pretty and meant to be enjoyed.

i agree with every word you wrote. and I do love and admire weeds. but not the beggar lice weed that i am killing now... the flower is pretty the stickseeds are not. i agree we need to see these beautiful flowers. but don't pick goldenrod and take it in the house, i did and hubby had an allergy atack
I agree with you that weeds are plants growing where you don't want them to grow.
The first wildflower is birdsfoot trefoil, the second is tansy, The third I don't know, the fourth is alfalfa (I believe) and the fifth lobelia.
I agree....There is so much beauty in the things that we refer to as weeds. Here in our area, the ragweed is so dreaded due to the allergens that it puts off...however, it makes a beautiful yellow flower head. Enjoyed these photos you captured...
That lobelia was sown by God, just to give you cheer as you use your steps. I am always grateful when God gives me lovely plants in odd places. Every flower that is not a 'garden' flower, is a wildflower to me. I have a lot of flowers in my garden that come from other parts of the world where they grow in the wild so how does one distinguish between garden flower, wildflower or weed? They are all God's creations.
I enjoyed this set of photos. I'm not much for identifying flowers or weeds either for that matter, but I do like seeing the different colors they add to a landscape.

Hi Ruth, Wow, you are so right and those photos are beautiful. The interesting thing about what you are saying on this post is that it's same thing that motivated me to snap pics of wildflowers on my walks and then put them on my blog. Yes, they are weeds to some folks, but it just makes me smile to stop and capture a little beauty from them. Thanks for sharing and best wishes for the week ahead. John

I think the second photo is of Craspedia. I see it grown in the gardens on the campus where I work.

I don't know what they are, but I do know they're pretty! I enjoy the flowering weeds.
No matter...if they're wildflowers growing and blooming where they're not 'supposed' to be ---they're still beautiful!!
The last photo, we have them here and I always think of wild violets...they resemble violets [to me anyway]

If a "weed" has a beautiful, colorful thingy on the end of it, I call it a flower...or a beautiful weed :) Lovely, no matter what google says they are!
