Flying Into October

September has flown by, so it seems. it has been a good month and one filled with many happy times for me. I trust it has been good for you as well.

Today the birds will help me welcome October.

All pictures were taken at Lockport, Manitoba this past summer.

A Double-crested Cormorant makes a quick pass in front of us.

Watching the American White Pelican in flight just never gets old. Add to that the beautiful blue sky and the results are just as I wanted them.

The water in the Red River was quite turbulent near the locks, but these birds are masters at making that perfect landing.

A closer look at the Pelican shows a face that is both cute and almost ugly, but it is those large white wings tipped in black that are outstanding.

I think this is formation flying at it's best. They almost have a self-satisfied look on their faces.

So, as we open the door to October, a new month, filled with unknowns, let us keep on smiling and looking for the beauty around us.

To God be the Glory!

Those white pelicans are pretty (until the come into breeding season...then, they look like they have a cancer growth in the middle of their beaks). Love the flight against the deep blue.

I read a comment earlier about your concern for your niece?

Ruth, Happy October! Where did the summer go! I love the Pelicans at Lokport! I also found a great spot for them on the Winnipeg River right below Seven Sisters Power Plant. They congregate where the Whitemount River enters the Winnipeg River. There is a little park right there with a nice waterfall. Next time you go to the Whiteshell you should check it out!

Your images here are wonderful!

Such beautiful birds, and wonderful photos! You have a steady hand and a good eye, and very good camera! Love these photos! Thank you for sharing. I am watching for our winter duck and geese visitors to arrive here in Florida sometime. Probably still too early, but I am watching!

Both these birds fascinate me. I seldom see either. I just love to watch anything the pelican does....from their flying to their sychronized swimming...better than any tv show. And you got wonderful pics.

You captured some amazing close-up shots of these magnificent birds! I agree that their faces are a bit interesting, but their glorious wingspan is really amazing! It is always so wonderful to watch the Lord's creation in their natural habitation doing what they do. I loved the pictures, and enjoyed the little outing with you! Many blessings :)

Although I’ve been on a bit of a “blog-break” I can’t resist checking in on a few of my favorite blogs. Your October header is wonderful. I enjoyed your post, Flying into October. Great title! :-) Ruth, your photography just gets better and better. That first photo of the American White Pelican should go in one of those bird guidebooks. Perfect exposure and framing is not so easy with a bird in flight. Thanks, as always, for sharing. Hope you have a fine week ahead.
