On this last day of June, I will share some pictures that brought a smile to my face. For years I have wished for some good photos of a Great Blue Heron. On May 11, 2021 my wish came true. Of course there are many photos out there which are much better than mine, but I am happy with these.
These are two different birds in two different locations, but all near the Pembina Valley.
A stop at the Kaleida Marsh, at first was disappointing ,but driving down the road a little further, gave me the next two shots. Well, actually I got many more but will only show these two today.
This bird seems to be all neck and wings. Not much of a body.
A leisurely drive through the valley, resulted in another fairly cooperative Heron.
This fella was intent on fishing, and paid no attention to me.
Once again, I got many pictures, but will only show a few.
After several attempts at catching supper, he decided to relocate .
The evening light was a bonus on these shots.
My camera kept on clicking and I am pretty sure I was smiling through it all.
Yes, these are slightly cropped, but still pleasing to me.
On another note, as of June 30, 2021, I have been officially retired for one year.
I have not regretted that decision for one single minute.
Retirement suits me just fine.

Your header is very dramatic! I have taken many good Blue Heron shots. But have never been able to get one in flight, much harder! So yours are wonderful!

I love your Great Blue Heron photos...you are able to capture good action photos with your camera. I can never seem to get them in flight with mine. They move too quickly for my camera to get them. Thank you for sharing these with us. Yes, we both were enjoying the Great Blue Heron yesterday! Isn't that cool? And I know what you mean about retirement. I've been retired now since Nov. 2015, and I've never regretted it for a second. God is good!! All the time, God is Good! Amen.
Happy First Anniversary of your retirment, my 15th anniversary of retirement is Sept 26 and I have never for one second regretted it. so happy you are enjoing yours and that you found your Heron's. My fav is the up lifted wings lifting off in the one above the evening light words

we made a point to go out kayaking twice this weekend. so glad we had the chance. we saw lots of herons ...we never get close to them ...but we really didn't get a chance ...they fly away i mean. i tend to be looking for fish ... saw a gorgeous about the size of my hand fish ...it was pretty clear waters ...that was fun. he was just looking around ... was shocked i had not scared him with my paddle?? have a great week. ( ;
These are lovely shots of it flying. I see them very regularly here, but I never get flight shots. They are such fascinating birds to watch when they are fishing. Beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing them.

Hi Ruth, Your kind comment on my blog yesterday reminded me I need to see what's new on Ruth's Photo Blog. I am curious: As you get older do you find time going by faster and faster? :-) I sure do and when I looked at this post I see you posted it on the last day of June. Two weeks have gone by in a flash and I'm just now seeing this post. I am sorry for being so late to comment but I don't want to miss a single post on your blog. It makes me happy to see that you finally got a chance to photograph the Great Blue Heron. These are some very cool captures, and, cropped or not, I find them to be excellent. I was typing away a comment on your stunning icicles and when I was almost through not only did the comment go poof, the place to type went away. i even went out and back in twice and there is nothing to type on but this one is here.
awesome photos of those icicles and # 3 is beautiful to me because I love dark backgrounds. so creative and I miss the continous shoot, that is how I got all my action shots of our dogs chasing each other. it freezes in time. beatiful post
