Pelicans At Sunset

We are now fully into fall, but I have some summer photos to share.

In July, I came upon these White Pelicans sitting on some exposed dirt in a fairly small body of water.

We don't see White Pelicans around here all the time, although they are readily seen in some areas.

As I watched, the sun was beginning to set and the birds seemed to be getting restless.

It didn't take very long for them to slowly begin to take off,

The sun was casting a path of gold over this body of water. It was almost like these birds were taking off from an area of pure gold.

Up up and away.

As I watched and captured these images, I was so thankful that I was at the right place at the right time.

To Think About:

Lord, thank You for the detail You put into creation and for being at work even when we can’t see it.

Fascinating to watch all those creatures, and to think that the Creator takes care of every minute detail! And yes, HE cares for you and me! Be blessed!

What delightful photos of those great birds. I'll never forget the day years ago when my friends and I, out on a nature walk, happened upon a pond where a small flock of pelicans had landed. They were so much fun to watch, we loved how they flew in formation.

Great captures! And the water does look like liquid gold. We see them in early spring if I am lucky enough to get down to Goise Pond. I have always wondered if they pass backnthrough in the fall.

I think photographers see visions like this more than non photographers. you were at the exact right place to capture this moment that is gone forever. so beautiful. they were probably going to where they all gather to spend the night hours. we have an island here, that all the pelicans and crows and a few other birds fly there every night at sundown and when the sun comes up they leave and go to all their fishing spots. i was at the right place to see them leave the island and come land on the beach where i was standing.

Nice to capture the golden water. My neighbor and I ran into some white pelicans at our local wildlife preserve a couple of weeks ago. They were fun to photograph!

Pelicans are unusual waterfowl but beautiful, especially when flying!
