Amaryllis and Flicker

Well before Christmas I bought several Amaryllis bulbs. They produced beautiful flowers to brighten the winter landscape, indoors, of course.

I did my duty and got numerous photos.

Steve decided to set up an Amaryllis photo studio in my living room. After he captured various images, I also got several. Below is one, getting close up and just showing part of the petals.

I find the stamens to be as photogenic as the whole flower, so I had to show them as well.

Around about the same time of year, we had a Northern Flicker visit the yard.
I  had never seen them around in winter.

I tend to think that this bird was contemplating about leaving and still heading further south. I hope he survived, wherever he went.

 To Think About:

This unique gift, this one day, cannot be exchanged, replaced or refunded.

Handle with care. Make the most of it.

The flicker is magnificent!!
As are your beautiful blossoms
We have one blooming (outdoors) and one with buds. I too like to get close-ups of the stamen. I will share sometime soon.

Double Wow on the amarillis photos. good job Steve on the set up. sounds like fun to me... your flicker might be here, we have had a sudden influx of them in the front yard in the past week. or we did, then along came the hunting hawks and feathers are everywhere and all the birds have left for another home

Ruth, Love the photos today. The red of the Amaryllis is stunning. Great color for this time of year since we still are getting snow! But I will say that seeing the Flicker was a gift. I had no idea they had such stunning markings. Very good photo showing the detail of the markings. Thanks for that!

OH, I love Amaryllis flowers! I buy bulbs for all the women in our family for Christmas each year, a tradition started by my Dad, and I have continued it. I enjoy them blooming indoors and then when the weather warms up enough I plant them outside. I just noticed that I have several of them starting to bloom outside right now. So I will be watching them and taking pictures. Your photos are amazing!!! Love the Flicker also. I do hope he made it wherever he was headed. I rarely see them down here. Not sure where they go for winter. I hope you will be seeing some springtime soon. But I enjoy your pictures no matter what season it is. Thank you for sharing with us.
